Amazing Race

Trish and I are in the Amazing race across America, we average 180 miles a day on our trip to Leesville, a total of  2600 miles!  That's because we do things like looking up Bopper and Mark, participants in the Amazing race who live in Manchester, Kentucky, we drove to Bopper's house, but he was gone for the day, we did meet his father and girlfriend, then we went to Mark's house and he was out to a ball game, again we just missed him, we did talk to a neighbour, they all couldn't believe two Canadians would stop in the hills of Kentucky to see their relatives! They sugggested we stop by on the way home, which we may do! We are camped in London, Kentucky, a fifth wheel pulled in beside us, we got chatting with them as they set up their40 ft  mansion, I said, that thing must have two bathrooms, she said no, but it does have a washer & dryer in the bathroom, then Trish asked if a rig like that came with a maid & butler, she said no , but she does have central vac, then she pushed the button for extending the five pop-outs and another button for  automatic levelling!  I waved my right arm and said, this was my automatic leveler!
We stopped at a flea market on the Country Music Highway, tried to buy a small mat for the camper, but the guy gave it to us because we mentioned Hank Snow, the highway is named because Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Dwight Yokum and Hylo something, a great bluegrass guy came from here in eastern Kentucky, we seen coal trucks and coal trains, all day long, the motto here, even on their license plates, is , if you don't like coal, turn off your electricity!
Remember two years ago when we told you we stopped for a Georgia peach, and the stand was closed because the peach man died! It happened again, we went to Clay County campground, big sign said bluegrass music every Friday night, we so looked forward to the cold beer and banjos, drove 10 miles up Crawfish road to find out the campground had been closed for years, the campground man died!  Next day, some locals said they would never go up Crawfish road, the further up you go, the less likely you are to ever come out again! Moonshiners, meth labs & grow-ops abound!
We were on IE again last night, if you remember , we invented that acronym, Illegal Electicity, we couldn't find anyone to pay at the campground, office was locked up, no drop box, we like that!

Today is St. Patrick's Day and this time last year we were in Victoria, BC and I walked with Paul through so many memories of where I grew up. Today in the Maritimes it is 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so Paul put our chairs out on the deck, poured us glasses of wine and we basked in the SUN starting work on our tans for when we depart for the South in December 2011 !

This is a Dreamy winter, we dream of being down South, we dream of winning the loto, we were dreaming of someone secretly putting money in our bank accounts (see blog of Saturday Oct 30th) and like Trish says we are going to the RV shows and dream about owning a motor home!

But , dreams can come true, we are working on heading for the sunshine next year and we just might make it! Meanwhile we will settle for making angels in the snow, when we are not sitting in the hot tub looking out over the ice at the Oak Island Inn.

Well, we are nearing the end of January. 9 more weeks till Spring, we can hardly wait ! Temperatures here are far too cold for us, nothing like the warmth we experienced this time last year. This coming weekend we are going into Halifax to an RV Show and pick out our Dream Truck and Camper for when we win the LOTTO !

Just a short note to let you know, we are all moved again, we are back in Western Shore, settled in and busy hunting most days. Driving taxi, bending the elbow at the Legion, looking forward to seeing the snow we did not see last winter. Last winter we experienced snow only on our way to Louisiana, mainly in Virginia, then again for one night in Northern California in March.
